Son of Thomas Philp, Auchtermuchty, and Mary Fleming, Falkland.

David Beveridge Philp, was born on 21 December 1892, at 35 Upper Greens, Auchtermuchty, He was the son of Thomas Philp, born 1835, bleacher of yarn, and Mary Fleming, born 1851, Falkland.

In the 1901 Census, Thomas and his second wife Mary were living with their children Lewis C, 13, George M, 11, and David B, 8, in Upper Greens.

In 1911 Thomas Philp, 77, factory fireman, retired, was living in a 2 roomed house, 35 Upper Greens, with his second wife Mary, 60, married for 25 years, the mother of 4 children, one of whom had died, with their surviving children Lewis C, 23, joiner, George M, 21, apprentice flour miller in the flour mill, and David B[everidge], 18, apprentice beam & scale maker with John White & Co.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

William Philip, 76, a widower was living in a single roomed cottage next door. He was a garden labourer.

 

David Philp's father Thomas Philp, born 1835, was the son of George Philp, and married firstly, Agnes F, living in Upper Greens, in 1871. She died about 1885.

 

David Philp was conscripted after January 1916. He joined 6th Battalion Royal Highlanders, part of 51st Highland Division.

With the German Spring Offensive of March 1918, the second Battle of the Somme started on 21 March. David Philp was killed in action on 10 April, 1918, and was commemorated at the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais.
