David Pringle was born 12 December 1893, at Dunshelt, Auchtermuchty, not Dundee, the son of Margaret or Maggie Pringle, born 1877, Kingsbarns, Fife, domestic servant.
In 1891 Maggie Pringle was domestic servant at Bowhouse farm, Collessie, to John Webster, born 1855, Luthrie, Fife.
David Pringle went to live with his grandfather, Robert Pringle at Greenmyre Farm, Dunshelt.
In 1896 Margaret Pringle married George Gray, born 1874, Collessie. In 1901 George Gray was a linoleum worker living at 138 Mid St, Sinclairton, Dysart, with his wife Margaret and children Peter, 4, and Agnes, 1.
In 1901 David Pringle was living at Greenmyre Farm, Auchtermuchty, with his grandfather Robert Pringle, grandmother Agnes Rutherford, and aunt Agnes Pringle.
In 1911 David Pringle was a farm ploughman living in South Street East, Falkland, with four others in Christina Page's boarding house. His grandfather Robert Pringle was farming at Nether Myres, Auchtermuchty. Robert Pringle's wife Agnes Christie had died, and he had remarried, in 1910, Mary, born 1855 in Auchtermuchty.
David Pringle's grandfather was Robert Pringle, born 22 March 1851 at Scoonie, Fife. On 21 August 1869 he married, at Cameron, Agnes Christie, born 1852, Cameron, Fife. In 1870 he was at St Andrews and in 1871 he was an agricultural labourer living at Cottar House, Lahill, Balmalcolm. By 1876 he was at Kingsbarns. By 1880 he was at Kettle, and in 1881 he was an agricultural labourer at Wester Rallingall, Balmalcolm, Kettle, living with his wife and four children. In 1886 he was at Dunfermline and in 1891 he was a farm servant, living at Ladybank Road, Auchtermuchty, with his wife and three younger children. In 1901 Robert Pringle was a farmer at Greenmyre Farm, Auchtermuchty, living with his wife Agnes, daughter Agnes, 18, and grandson David, 7.
David Pringle's great grandfather was Alexander Pringle, born 1824, St Andrews. In 1851 Alexander Pringle was an agricultural labourer living at Boothie, Scoonie, with his wife Margaret Rutherford, and son Robert, 11 months old. In 1856 he was at Largo and in 1858 at Elie. In 1861 Alexander Pringle was a ploughman living at Cottar House, Langside, Kennoway, with his wife and four children. In 1881 Alexander Pringle was a ploughman at Muiredge Cottage, Wemyss, living with his wife Margaret.
David Pringle left Falkland and ploughing and was engaged as a shore porter in Dundee and then became a member of Dundee Police Force.
David Pringle enlisted in January 1915 in the Scots Guards.
By 1916 Robert Pringle had retired and was living at Melbourne Cottage, Dunshelt.
"This photo of private D.Pringle, Scots Guards, who has died as the result of wounds received in action.
Private Pringle was a grandson of mr R pringle, retired farmer, Dunshalt, Auchtermuchty, and was 22 years of age. Previous to enlisting he was engaged as a shore porter at Dundee, and was for some time a member of Dundee police Force. He enlisted in Janaury 1915, and has been about ten months at the front." Courier. 18th April 1916.
David Pringle volunteered in January 1915 and joined the Scots Guards. He was sent out to France and died on 2 April 1916. He was buried at Lijssenthoek Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium.
